16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that raises awareness of violence against women and girls and promotes support for those affected.

The campaign which began on 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and runs until 10th December, Human Rights Day.

To mark this important initiative, Somerset Council’s domestic abuse service provider, The YOU trust, is hosting a drop-in event to support those impacted by domestic abuse and to encourage community awareness.

What to expect at the events

The open day is designed to provide a safe and welcoming space for:

  • Individuals who have experienced domestic abuse
  • Current clients
  • Past and potential clients

Attendees can enjoy coffee, cake, and a crafting session while connecting with others in a supportive and friendly environment.

A safe space with expert support

Each event will be supported by experienced managers and advocates who will:

  • Provide a listening ear
  • Offer a safe space for disclosures
  • Make referrals in a non-pressured environment
